Steel shot is made of high-quality steel scraps, which are first melted and then shaped into small balls by high-pressure water jets. The formed balls are heated again to purify and homogenize, and then quenched. The quenched balls are dried in a furnace and reheated and tempered to achieve the appropriate hardness. The tempered steel shots are sorted into 11 grades that meet SAE standards through a mechanical screen for use in shot blasting equipment. Products of different particle sizes and hardness are used in different processes, such as surface strengthening.
Steel grit is made by crushing steel shots with special machinery. It has an irregular shape and edges. The edges are like blades. When used for shot blasting or shot peening, the contact surface with the object is sharper, which is more conducive to cleaning the surface. It is particularly suitable for pretreatment of steel surface descaling.
