The process of steel shot granulation is the focus of the entire process, and currently the main methods are impact method, centrifugation method, and atomization method.
The impact method is to use high-speed and high-pressure water flow to disperse molten steel, causing the liquid metal to fall into the water and cool, solidify, and ultimately form pellets. The disadvantage of this method is that the hollow rate of the steel shot is high, which makes it easy to form irregular shaped shots.
Centrifugal method is to pour molten steel onto a high-speed rotating disc, with many small holes around the disc. Under the action of centrifugal force, the molten steel flies out of the disc and falls into the water to cool into pellets. The centrifugal method produces much better pellets than the impact method, greatly reducing the proportion of hollow steel pellets
Firstly, the composition of scrap steel or raw materials needs to be tested, and then a certain proportion of alloy is added and melted in the furnace. The molten steel is then processed into steel pellets through impact, centrifugation, or atomization methods, also known as granulation. After drying, the steel pellets enter a vibrating screen for initial classification, which separates them into cast steel pellets and steel sand. After screening, the cast steel pellets and steel sand need to be quenched and tempered again to meet the standard hardness requirements. Finally, further screening size and packaging inspection are required.
The atomization method is actually a combination of impact method and centrifugal method. First, molten steel is placed on the surface of a rotating cone using special equipment to form a metal liquid film. Then, under the action of centrifugal force and surface tension, it is atomized into small droplets and thrown outwards. At the same time, cooling water is sprayed out along a position perpendicular to the direction of droplet movement, causing the droplets to quickly cool into pellets. The quality and comprehensive mechanical properties of the steel shot produced by this method are very good.
